You can help…. KZN is currently sitting on 2 day’s blood stock.
The Minority Front urges everyone to donate a unit of this “precious gift of life”. One must develop a habit of donating blood in order that South African National Blood Service (SANBS) has sufficient blood stock to ensure that in cases of emergency quality blood is always available for needy patients. Kwa-Zulu Natal is currently sitting on 2 day’s blood stock. We aim to maintain a stock level of 5 days, with 3000 units collected per day to meet the demand. Currently we are experiencing difficulty achieving this, which has been mainly due to the fact the school and university drives are not possible from September onwards as students are busy with exams, followed by a short break and a very intensive final quarter, said Cllr Lyndal Singh.
Cllr Lyndal Singh therefore urges all blood donors, to make a conscious effort to donate blood. Your one unit of blood can save up to three lives. This is also a plea to all South Africans who meets the minimum requirements to also commit to donating blood.
Minimum Requirements to be a donor:
· Be between the age of 16 – 65 years
· Weigh more than 50kgs
· Be in good health
· Live a sexually safe lifestyle.
If you are a current blood donor please ensure you continue to donate regularly. If you are not a blood donor the Minority Front urges you to take the first step to save lives by visiting your nearest blood donor centre today! Be a hero, it’s in your BLOOD.
