Bradley Singh assist people in Ward 52 with Jobs

About 70 new job opportunities are coming to Phoenix's Ward 52 as part of a project called Zibambele Poverty Alleviation Programme. This is according to Minority Front Ward 52 Cllr Bradley Singh.
Speaking to the Phoenix Tabloid Cllr Singh said his ward has been chosen as the first ward in Phoenix to be involved in the Zibambele Poverty Alleviation Programme which is driven by the Ethekwini Municipality.
The projects main object is to maintain the roads which are usually neglected during clean ups in neat conditions, while also providing part time employment opportunities for residents of the area who are disadvantaged.
" It has taken two years for me to convince the officials who spearhead the project to come to my ward and finally they agreed to involve my ward in this initiative," said Cllr Singh.
"The officials came to my ward to inspect if there really was a need for this project and they found that there is a need. Members of the community who reside in my ward will be informed as to who they must contact as soon the recruitment for workers resumes," Explained Singh.
" The people who will be chosen to work in this project will be chosen on the basis that they are really disadvantaged and unemployed. The project works hand in hand with eradicating poverty so it is vital that only those in need are chosen to work in this project," said Singh.
The prime responsibility of the workers who will be chosen as Zibambele Contractors would be to carry out low intensity road maintenance activities on a part-time basis. Like the cleaning of the road surfaces, Clearing of drains and channels and clearing and cleaning of verges."
Ward 52 is made of areas including Westham, Brookdale, Whetstone, Lenham, Northcroft and Brooksfarm.

Honorable Speaker,His Worship the Mayor, Madam Deputy Mayor.
In April 2008 at a full council meeting a resolution was passed were, by Water Fixed Charges for Properties with a Municipal Value below R 190 000 Rand, would not be charged Water Fixed Charges and this was to be Implemented on the 1st July 2008, However Mr Speaker unfortunately this Municipality did not adhere to this policy and continued to charge the poor people off this Municipality.
It is a Shame that year after year from 2008 to 2011 this Municipality would say that they are Pro Poor and the Mayor will say in his Budget speech, that they do not charge Water fixed charges to properties with a Municipal Value off R190 000 and below Mr Speaker this Municipality must do business in the the light of day and be acoountable to the rate payers for a few officals including the city manager did not do their jobs that is why this motion is before this council today.
This Council can today change the lives off Thousands off households by giving them back what, they should have not been charged for Since July 2008.
This is daylight Robbery on poor people who do not understand council policies, yet the City Manager and is team get paid to implement council policies, failed to do their jobs and failed the Citzens off this City.
Mr Speaker the Right thing to do is investigate this motion, give poor people a chance to have a rebate for been incorrectly charge a fee which according to council policy they should have not paid from 1 July 2008.

Anger over Juju's racist slur
Apartheid is over or is it? We are told that we live in a democratic country by government and media; we have instilled in ourselves and our children the value of respecting everyone regardless of their race and creed, we have strived for the past 17 years not only as Indians but as South Africans to build a better South Africa.
But are we really a democratic country? Is the rainbow nation just a myth like the abominable snowman or tooth fairy? I ask this question because of the recent racist slur made by the controversial ANCYL Julius Malema. Juju has stirred up anger and frustration amongst the Indians. It is an appalling tragedy that Juju the ANCYL president who is supposed to be an inspiration and role model to the youth can utter such a disgusting word as "coolies" when addressing the public. It is even more horrendous that the ANC can allow such an individual who is not only a disgrace to South Africans but a disappointment to the ANC by undoing 17 years of hard work put in by all South Africans to cure the plague of Aparthied from South African soils.
Is this how we wish our future leaders to address the nation, by reinforcing upon society the racist attitude and degrading terminology of the Apartheid regime? I would think not. I would think that after this racist remark, Julius Malema does not understand the idea and concept behind the word democracy and should be educated before being allowed to speak publicly. One must not be afraid to learn or even going back to school. Juju, we Indians are just as much part of this country as you are. We too, are patriotic citizens of South Africa. We too have fought for freedom from segregation and we too live and die by the South African flag. Apartheid is over Juju. After 17 years of freedom this should not news to you. "You are racist" is not an appropriate response, stop playing the race card and start helping your fellow South Africans to continue building our rainbow nation.

Minority Front Ward 52 Councillor Bradley Singh has lambasted the electricity department for poor service delivery after three Phoenix families had to go without electricity for 24 hours recently
Minority Front Ward 52 Councillor Bradley Singh has lambasted the electricity department for poor service delivery after three Phoenix families had to go without electricity for 24 hours recently.
According to Cllr Singh, three families in his ward from Towlen, Diblen and Everham were left without electricity for 24 hours following a power cut. He said all three families told him as well as showed him proof that they contacted the call center on several occasions in order to get an official to come and reconnect their power. He said the residents all claimed that they were only given a reference number and made to wait but received no help.
The only time that the power was reconnected back to the families homes was when he intervened. Continuing Cllr Singh said he found it unacceptable that the officials only responded faster when Councillor intervened.
"When the residents phone the call center, they must get the same immediate response that Councillors get. They are rate payers and should not have to wait many hours before their complaints are addressed," he said.
It is alleged that one of the families had a small baby in their household and found it extremely difficult to make food for the infant.
"I had to boil water from my house and put it in a flask twice in one day in order for the family to be able to make milk and feed the baby, said Councillor Singh.
Mr Pillay a resident from Diblen expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Councillor Singh for his assistance.
"We really appreciate the good work that Councillor Singh does for the community. He responded to our calls and pleas immediately and ensured that the officials from the electricity department came to reconnect the power again," said Mr Pillay.

Fernham Drive residents can now breathe easy following a dense bush in their area which they claimed was an eyesore and a haven for criminals has been finally cut. Residents were demanding answers from their ward Councillor as to why the dangerous bush was not cut. They had blamed the bush for several mugging incidents that allegedly taking place on a daily basis in the area.
Minority Front ward 52 Councilor Bradley Singh said he has kept to his promise and had the grass cleared out as soon as the funds became available.
"Even though it was a challenge to get the bush cut, I kept pushing and following up on the matter. I am happy that finally the bush has been cleared out because I made a promise to the residents."
"I want residents to know that the delay was caused by the lack of funds and not because I am an incompetent Councillor. I am a man of my word and so as soon as I heard that funds were available I jumped at the chance to have the bush cleared out," said Cllr Singh.
Continuing he said " I also want to thank the city treasure Krish Kumar for his assistance in ensuring that funds became available to have the bush cleared out. We have also compiled a list of all the housing land that is left vacant with long bushes to be cleared out soon."
